Lap Band Surgery for teenagers

CONTROVERSIAL lap-band surgery should be more freely available to severely obese teenagers, a landmark Australian study has found. But those concerns didn't trouble Queensland teenager Katie Lesage, who had lap-band surgery two years ago, aged 16. "It made me a happier person," said Ms Lesage. Her mother Karin, who has also had lap-band surgery, agreed obese teenagers who had tried everything else should be offered lap-banding.

Australian researchers report that the BioEnterics® LAP-BAND® System surgery that limits the amount of food entering the stomach dramatically improved the health of seriously obese people with type 2 diabetes.
